“Hey, Dear!” My beloved husband called from our bedroom.“What’s up?”
“What’s on my back?” He asked, turning around to show me his shoulder.
“What in the world…” I grabbed my glasses for a closer look. At first, it seemed like a dark scab, but at the same time that I saw the tiny hair-like legs, he asked, “Is it a tick?”
Unfortunately, yes it was…
While ticks are most active in Spring and Fall, adult ticks can still be a threat at other times of the year. Lyme Disease is just one of the pathogens ticks carry that are dangerous to human health.
The best way to prevent tick bites is to avoid them in the first place by walking in the center of hiking trails, away from wooded, brushy areas with tall grass or lots of leaf litter. And check your body as soon as you can, if you have been out in potentially tick-infested areas. Check clothing, packs and pets as well.

On a personal note here, we were enjoying a friend’s party in her family vineyard and as evening approached, so did the mosquitoes! Fortunately, I had my Avon bag with samples in the truck. Everyone who applied this formula found relief from the attacking insects.

I’ll confess that I’m not in love with this disappearing color formula, although I might feel differently applying it to children (and being able to ensure coverage). When I used it on myself, the blue cast never completely disappeared!
Fortunately, it also comes in a quick-absorbing white, too.
The links in this post take you to my eStore where you can order these products and more. In my search for reviews, I found Colorado Mountain Mom, Tami, had done her own test and reported her results in her blog post: Avon’s Skin So Soft Bug Guard ~ Protect Yourself & Little Ones on Outdoor Adventures.
Avon’s most iconic brand is not designed as an insect repellent and makes no claims that it works as one. Nevertheless, you will read stories of people who do report success. Use in your bath or smooth on damp skin to feel ultra soft and velvety smooth and if you find it keeps insects away, well, that’s a bonus!
With any product, you will find mixed reviews. I’ve never done official product testing, but I do know that not every product works for everyone. If you do use one of Avon’s Skin So Soft Bug Guard formulas and it does not perform to your satisfaction, we have a 90 day guarantee. Simply return your purchase to the representative from whom you bought your items for a full refund or credit on your next purchase.
