I’ve reached that “certain age” where it’s starting to show that I’ve, well, reached that certain age.

I came to terms with my white hair since it started changing in my 30s. And I’ve got spots that can no longer be passed off as larger freckles. But why do I have to deal with facial hair, too?

The truth is that the hair on my upper lip is not really that noticeable. Except for a few dark strays, the hair is blond-ish. The real problem is that the amount of hair tends to cause shadowing that leads to a mustache look that I’d rather do without.

Usually, I get my brows, upper lip and chin waxed. Not on a steady basis, but if there is a special event or we’re going on vacation, I’ll go in to my fabulous esthetician, Annette Greenwald at It’s All About Me at the Blow Dry Bar.

But my lip hair regrows much quicker than my brows and it bothers me.

So when I saw Avon’s Skin So Soft Fresh & Smooth Sensitive Skin Facial Hair Removal Cream, I thought I’d give it a try. After all, as an Avon Independent Sales Representative, I need to know as much about our products as possible!

I’ll admit that I was not particularly optimistic. I had tried hair removal sprays and creams (not Avon) on my legs with very poor results. I just didn’t expect much here.

I chose the sensitive formula because I have rosacea and am prone toward breaking out under stressful circumstances, including using harsh ingredients.

It is essential to read all the warnings and directions before using the hair removal cream. This is a chemical product and needs to be handled with care. Be sure to test on a small area to be certain of your own sensitivity.

I used this product before my shower in the morning. After reading the instructions carefully, I dabbed a thick layer across my upper lip and down toward the corners of my mouth (where my Fu Manchu was starting to form!). There was no discernible odor, I’m happy to say, since I was using it right under my nose!

I did have a stinging sensation at about the three minute mark.

After approximately three minutes, I used a tissue to wipe off the cream.

I was astonished at the results. ALL the hair was gone!

After using the tissue, I rinsed my face with warm water to remove any additional residue. I then took my shower as usual.

The instructions mention not to wash the product off with soap to avoid chemical burns. I had rinsed my face thoroughly and did use my Avon Anew Clean Illuminating Rich Cleansing Foam in the shower, per usual and experienced some slight stinging.

I did have some obvious redness where I had used the cream. It was much redder than after waxing. However, within about 20 minutes, the redness was fading and was completely gone in under an hour. If you are planning to use this product before an event, be sure to plan ahead so that any redness is gone. You may even want to use the hair removal cream at night, rinsing well before turning in for the night.

As I previously stated, I’m very happy with the results. This will be a nice stop-gap between waxings, which I will continue because I like the pampering I get with Annette.

Have you used either of Avon’s Skin So Soft Fresh and Smooth Facial Hair Removal Creams? What were your results?
